Luxury Topic 149 — Do You Like Sidewalks?

Do you like sidewalks? I hope your real estate professional has asked you that question! Think about it, neighborhoods with sidewalks can be vastly different from those without. One leans toward uniformity, organization, wider streets, while the other evokes images of inconsistency, narrower and winding streets, etc. The two are different enough that it is a key question that we ask all of our clients. Often, the response is, “no one has ever asked me that, but no, I don’t want to live in a neighborhood that has sidewalks!” Just sayin…

Luxury Topic 148 — Would You Enjoy Goodwood?

Quick, where is Goodwood, and why would you probably have a great time there? Time’s up…Goodwood is less than an hour outside of London, England. It’s the home of Rolls Royce. We had an extraordinary opportunity to be invited to the factory for a private tour provided the the VP of Global Sales. When you next find yourself in that part of the world, I highly encourage a side trip to Goodwood. If you’re a fan of seeing, close up, how a company produces a product for which some of the most successful people in the world are willing to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars, your time there will be well spent. Once the price of a car, for example, reaches into the stratosphere as does a new Rolls Royce, it’s no longer a mode of transportation, rather it becomes a work or art. But that’s not the point. The point is how does it make the transformation from metal and steel to art. It’s the human touch, it’s the attention to detail, it’s the dedication to setting world-class standards. It’s rare for most to come across such works of art, but when you do, make sure you stop for a moment and just internalize it. The simple act of doing that will take you to greater heights in whatever you do…don’t let that kind of special appreciation pass you by. The “art of luxury real estate” is also something, when done extraordinarily well, is something to be admired as much as a work of art.

Luxury Topic 147 — Would You Pay $664,3000 For a Parking Space?

And you thought Short Term Airport Parking was expensive

Well then, how about paying $664,300 for a parking space? According to the Ming Pao newspaper a 188 square foot parking space on Hong Kong island sold for exactly that amount. Even for Hong Kong, that parking space cost as much as many small homes in the area. Sometimes it’s comforting for those who live in what many consider to be costly areas of California (La Jolla, Palo Alto, Beverly Hills, Rancho Santa Fe, etc.) to read a story like this. So, the next time you complain about $36 for self-parking in San Francisco, rest assured it’s a bargain!
